MADRID (MarketWatch) — Among the companies whose shares are expected to see active trading in Monday’s session are Medtronic Inc. and Covidien PLC , as well as Layne Christensen Co.

Medtronic MDT, +1.49%  announced a deal on Sunday to buy Ireland-based Covidien PLC US:COV in a $42.9 billion cash-and-stock deal.  

Layne Christensen US:LAYN  is projected to report a loss of 36 cents a share in the first quarter, according to a consensus survey by FactSet. The company’s water infrastructure segment is expected to show improvement, but its mineral services operations faces another difficult year, analyst Gerard Sweeney at Boenning & Scattergood said in a recent report.

Executive recruiter Korn/Ferry KFY, +1.81%  is forecast to earn 39 cents a share in the fourth quarter.
