The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -1.11% is on track to finish Monday’s session in its first bear market in more than two years. Dow industrials were down by more than 200 points, or 0.8%, at 29,342 in the final hour of trading. A close at or below 29,439.72 would mark a pullback of at least 20% from the Dow’s Jan. 4 record finish, meeting widely used criteria for entering a bear market. The last time the Dow was in a bear market was between March 11 and March 26 of 2020, at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in the U.S. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 SPX, -1.03% traded just above its June lows on Monday, off by 0.6%, and the Nasdaq Composite COMP, -0.60% was slightly lower.
