The Dow Jones Transportation Average DJT, -2.41% dove 2.2% in morning trading Tuesday, putting it on track for a fifth-straight decline, as the transportation sector tracker (DJT) continues to underperform its sister index, the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -0.26%, and the broader stock market by a wide margin. The index has now tumbled 9.3% during its five-day losing streak. Meanwhile, the Dow industrials fell 21 points, or 0.1%, on Tuesday, toward its third loss in five days. The Dow has lost 1.1% during that five-day stretch, while the S&P 500 has slipped 1.5% and the Nasdaq Composite COMP, -1.77% has declined 2.0%. On Tuesday, 18 of the DJT’s 20 components lost ground. Among the biggest decliners, shares of Ryder System Inc. R, -6.13% sank 6.5%, Matson Inc. MATX, -4.59% slid 4.2%, United Parcel Service Inc. UPS, -3.73% shed 4.2% and Avis Budget Group Inc. CAR, -3.00% fell 3.6%. American Airlines Group Inc.’s stock AAL, -2.54%, which was the most active of the group, declined 2.5%.
