U.S. stocks opened slightly lower Tuesday, extending Monday’s selloff as investors await fresh economic data. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -0.28% was trading down 0.1% soon after the opening bell, while the S&P 500 SPX, +0.03% fell 0.1% and the Nasdaq Composite COMP, +0.16% declined less than 0.1%, according to FactSet data, at last check. Investors this morning will get readings on U.S. manufacturing, services and new home sales, as they continue to weigh concerns over a slowing economy and the Federal Reserve’s policy on monetary tightening. All three major stock benchmarks fell sharply Monday, as investors questioned this summer’s rally and how aggressive the Fed may need to be hiking interest rates to tame hot inflation.
