Boeing Co. BA, -3.54% executives are planning to move the aerospace company’s headquarters to Arlington, Va., from Chicago, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter. The move could be announced as soon as next week, the Journal said. Boeing did not immediately return a request for comment. The company moved to its current headquarters in Chicago in 2001 from the Seattle area, where it was founded and still maintains several manufacturing and training facilities. A move to the Washington, D.C., area would put the company’s top executives closer to aviation authorities and the top echelons of government. Shares of Boeing fell more than 3% on Thursday, as equity markets tumbled. The stock has lost 25% this year, compared with losses of around 13% for the S&P 500 index. SPX, -3.55% and 9% for the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -3.10%. Boeing is a Dow component.
