CDC officially recommends new boosters for young children

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention officially signed off on allowing children as young as 5 years old to get an updated COVID-19 booster shot. CDC Director Rochelle Walensky signed the decision memo on Wednesday afternoon, the same day that the Food and Drug Administration expanded the authorizations for Moderna Inc. MRNA, +8.58% and BioNTech SE BNTX, +5.64% /Pfizer Inc.’s PFE, +0.63% updated COVID-19 boosters. Moderna’s new shot is now available for children between the ages of 6 and 17 years old, while the BioNTech/Pfizer bivalent booster is now available for children between the ages of 5 and 11 years old.
