President Joe Biden will receive his updated COVID booster shot Tuesday, and will encourage more Americans to get theirs, too. NBC News first reported the booster news, which was confirmed by a tweet from White House assistant press secretary Kevin Munoz and in an emailed statement, in which the White House said “The President will receive his updated COVID-19 vaccine and will deliver remarks on the ongoing fight against the virus.” Some 19.4 million Americans have got the updated booster so far, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data, a slow start given expectations for a wave of new cases in the winter months. U.S. known cases of COVID are continuing to ease and now stand at their lowest level since mid-April, although the true tally is likely higher given how many people overall are testing at home, where the data are not being collected. The daily average for new cases stood at 37,741 on Sunday, according to a New York Times tracker, down 7% from two weeks ago. The daily average for hospitalizations was down 1% at 26,798, while the daily average for deaths is down 6% to 361. Globally, the confirmed case tally rose above 627.6 million on Monday, according to data aggregated by Johns Hopkins, while the death toll is above 6.57 million with the U.S. leading the world with 97.2 million cases and 1,067,686 deaths.
