COVID-19

The FSMA is closely following all developments relating to the COVID-19 epidemic. It does so in collaboration with the federal government, the National Bank of Belgium, the European and international supervisory authorities and the representatives of the financial sector.

In accordance with the statement by the prime minister on 17 March 2020 and the measures taken by the federal government, the FSMA encourages companies to allow their staff to work from home. If this is not possible, companies must comply strictly with the measures imposed by the competent authorities in order to stem the outbreak of COVID-19.

The FSMA has itself made all the organizational arrangements necessary to remain fully operational in the current circumstances. In order to avoid placing additional burdens on the companies subject to the FSMA’s supervision, the FSMA will, for now, avoid taking any non-urgent actions.

At the same time, the FSMA is publishing the guidance needed to enable entities subject to its supervision to continue operating smoothly and in the interest of consumers. The FSMA is also providing financial consumers with useful information relating to COVID-19. The guidance and information will be supplemented and updated as the situation with the epidemic changes and depending on the measures taken in this regard.

The guidance and information in question are posted in separate sections of the FSMA website:
