Nasdaq ends 2.1% higher as stocks bounce back from January fall

Stocks ended with sharp gains Wednesday, extending a bounce from a January stumble as investors digested a steady stream of corporate earnings and awaited the release of the January consumer price index. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +0.86% ended around 305 points higher, up 0.9%, near 35,769, according to preliminary figures The S&P 500 SPX, +1.45% rose around 66 points, or 1.5%, to finish near 4,587, while the Nasdaq Composite COMP, +2.08% led the way higher, rising 2.1% to close near 14,490. Economic data will be in focus Thursday, with investors set to gauge the January CPI reading for clues to how aggressive the Federal Reserve will be as it attempts to get inflation under control.
