State AGs launch investigation into TikTok's effect on children

33847 state ags launch investigation into tiktoks effect on children

A coalition of eight state attorneys general on Wednesday said it has started an investigation into video-sharing platform TikTok and its potential harm to children. The action builds on an investigation by the same group of AGs into Facebook parent Meta Platforms Inc.’s FB, +2.27% Instagram that focuses on similar concerns. The investigation is being led by AGs from California, Florida, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Nebraska, New Jersey, Tennessee and Vermont, the group said. “Our children are growing up in the age of social media — and many feel like they need to measure up to the filtered versions of reality that they see on their screens,” California Attorney General Rob Bonta said in a statement. TikTok is owned by ByteDance Ltd. in Beijing.
