U.S. stocks opened higher Monday, attempting to bounce after another week of losses for major indexes. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +1.11% rose 266 points, or 0.8%, after logging an eight straight weekly fall on Friday, its longest streak of weekly declines since 1932, according to Dow Jones Market Data. The S&P 500 SPX, +0.92% was up 0.7% at 3,931, while the Nasdaq Composite COMP, +0.68% edged up 0.3% to 11,384. The S&P 500 on Friday temporarily traded below the threshold that marks a 20% retreat from its Jan. 3 record close. A finish below that level would put the large-cap benchmark in a bear market. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq posted their seventh straight weekly losses on Friday, their longest streaks since 2001.
