Stocks opened lower Friday, weighed down as shares of Amazon.com Inc. AMZN, -14.05% and Apple Inc. AAPL, -3.66% lost ground after quarterly updates. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -2.77% fell 90 points, or 0.3%, at 33,826,leaving it on track for a 2.5% monthly fall. The S&P 500 SPX, -3.63% was down 0.7% at 4,256, while the Nasdaq Composite COMP, -4.17% dropped 0.7% to 12,784. The S&P 500 was on track for a 6% fall in April, while the Nasdaq was off 10%, putting the indexes on track for their biggest monthly falls since March 2020.
