The U.S. will join the European Union in directly sanctioning Russian President Vladimir Putin over the invasion of Ukraine, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Friday. The U.S. will also sanction Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and members of the Russian national security team, Psaki said. There are uncertainties about the extent of Putin’s wealth, as Bloomberg reported, making the expected move largely symbolic. President Joe Biden said Thursday that sanctions against Putin were “on the table.” Psaki said the sanctions would include a ban on travel to the U.S., and that more details would be forthcoming.
