The White House on Wednesday criticized Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s decision to put in place extra inspections by state troopers of commercial trucks coming from Mexico. “Governor Abbott’s unnecessary and redundant inspections of trucks transiting ports of entry between Texas and Mexico are causing significant disruptions to the food and automobile supply chains, delaying manufacturing, impacting jobs, and raising prices for families in Texas and across the country,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki said in a statement. She noted local businesses and trade associations are calling on the Republican governor to reverse his policy, adding that the flow of legitimate trade and travel and U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s ability to do its job “should not be obstructed.”
