Sen. Ben Ray Lujan, a New Mexico Democrat, suffered a stroke Thursday but is expected to make a “full recovery,” his office said in a statement. The senator underwent decompressive surgery to ease swelling once the stroke was discovered, the statement said. Lujan’s absence from the Senate means there will be only 49 senators in the Democratic caucus. That would make moving any nominees difficult. However, Utah Republican Sen. Mitt Romney is out this week with COVID, noted a Politico reporter, so the party breakdown would remain the same until next week.
