Sen. Bob Menendez, a New Jersey Democrat, is under federal criminal investigation, according to multiple reports. Semafor reported that prosecutors in the Southern District of New York have contacted people connected to Menendez in recent weeks, and an adviser to the senator told the outlet he is “aware of an investigation that was reported on today, however he does not know the scope of the investigation.” Menendez, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, was indicted on federal corruption charges in 2015 after being accused of illegally accepting favors from a Florida eye doctor. He pleaded not guilty and charges were later dismissed.
