The U.S. Postal Service said late Thursday it filed a notice with regulators to allow for a “temporary price adjustment” for packages during the holiday season. The adjustment “is similar to ones in past years that help cover extra handling costs to ensure a successful peak season,” USPS said. The peak-season pricing plan was approved by the service’s governors earlier this week and would affect prices on several commercial and retail domestic parcel services, including Priority Mail and Priority Mail Express, USPS said. International products would be unaffected. Pending approval, the rates would go into effect Oct. 2 through Jan. 22.
